Thomas Henderson is a 22 year old Scottish man. Growing up in the industrial town of Coatbridge, Thomas's childhood was hard. Living in a small mining house, the family could hardly afford more than what they needed to scrape by.
As a child, living without was a way of life, but not one Thomas and his friends accepted. Much to the ire of the local community, a roving gang of kids was well known about the town for causing trouble, and taking what luxuries they could get their hands on.
As he got older, Thomas's frustrations became more apparent. His father, William Henderson, had grown tired of his antics and the two were frequently at loggerheads at home. Although they didn't get on, Thomas deep down did respect his father, and he carried his frustrations out into the community where his attempts to 'let off steam' (read: fighting) saw him frequently in trouble with the Lanarkshire Constabulary.
Infamous for stealing a tram and riding it through Coatbridge, Thomas increasingly became ostracised from his community. Being kicked out of school for his crimes, he got a job in the mines and was finally earning a wage. Mary Henderson, Thomas's mother, tried to mend the damage Thomas caused growing up within the community, but in the end, not even earning for himself or his mother's efforts could reconcile the rift caused. Thomas decided the only way was to leave, but where would he go?
Pulling together every last penny he could, he backed his few belongings and boarded a ship bound west, for America, to start a new life away from his troubled upbringing.
