Fallout 4: The Commonwealth Regiment

Character Name: Brigette Andersen
Game: Fallout 4 (Heavily modded)
Bio: Over 200 years after the Great War - the nuclear war that destroyed every country on Earth - the East coast of America is a lawless and dangerous place, where the shattered remnants of humanity try to piece life together in the face of radiation, limed resources, and threats from mutated animals, raiders, and other hostile groups.

The Commonwealth Minutemen were created to help protect communities and bind them into a functional society. Following the Quincy massacre, the Minutemen disbanded and the communities they represented fell apart.

From the ashes of the Minutemen, the Commonwealth Regiment is a military organisation aiming to create an area of safe space in the Commonwealth for communities, old and new, to prosper.

21 rounds left..... After a successful sortie, an unexpected ambush on the way back to base leaves the 1st Special Operations Division short of ammo!⠀

This..... This is not great weather for a sniper.....⠀

Dark square? Guess again, even the darkest of nights are turned into advantages for the 1st Special Operations Division, as they conduct clandestine operations across the Commonwealth.⠀

The town of Lexington was once a busy industrial town before the war, bustling with people going about their business. 200 years on, the crumbling ruins provide a hideaway for those looking to take from others.⠀

The eerie landscape of the Commonwealth during a dusk snowstorm!⠀

Reduced visibility means everyone who doesn't want to be found comes out to play. If you don't have cover, the best thing is to move as quickly as possible! ⠀

As the sun sets and the snow continues to fall, it's hard to see anything: the landscape of the Commonwealth hidden behind a veil of white! ⠀

The first winter storm of the season seriously hampers visibility while the 1st Special Operations Division are out on assignment. ⠀

With winter arriving, the Commonwealth Regiment breaks out the winter camo! ⠀

Also doing a #ClapForOurCarers tribute from my Fallout 4 series. I can't take part in the full event (due to illness) so I'm showing my immense appreciation to the NHS, the emergency services and everyone working in my own way! Thank you to you all!

December has arrived, and with it, the landscape is covered in a blanket of snow. Time for the Commonwealth Regiment to switch to winter camo!⠀

When the weather closes in, the Commonwealth Regiment has to put on extra patrols, lest any raider groups try to take advantage of the inclement weather. ⠀

Sometimes the work of the 1st Special Operations Division requires the team to work out of uniform on special assignments.⠀

"Go! Go! Go!" The ruins of the towns and cities of the Commonwealth are perfect for ambushes. Arriving in force, moving quickly, and keeping to cover and the best ways to survive in urban environments.⠀ ⠀

Come rain or shine, the work of the Commonwealth Regiment never stops! The 1st Special Operations Division heads out into the Commonwealth.⠀

"He's over there!!!"⠀
"TAKE THE SHOT!!!"⠀

When not on assignment, the 1st Special Operations Division helps patrol the areas around Commonwealth settlements. ⠀

The Minute Man stands proudly above the ruins of the Commonwealth, a testament to those who have given their life defending their home. ⠀

Gooooooooood morning Commonwealth! Medic Anderson is geared up and ready to start the day shift patrolling Sanctuary.⠀

Rebuilding the ruins of Sanctuary Hills is underway! It's important to have a home to fight for, if the Commonwealth Regiment is ever going to make advances.⠀

Scars? Check. War paint? Check. Wearing rebar as armour? All check - time to become leader of a raider gang!⠀

Buildings are dangerous places in post-apocalypse America. Guiding your team safely through the buildings has to be done slowly and methodically - anything could be round the next corner!⠀

When you're in a raider gang, it's not about living in comfort, it's about taking what you want and moving on.⠀

The Commonwealth Minutemen was a great idea, that ultimately failed. Lessons have been learned, and from humble beginnings, it's time to try again with the Commonwealth Regiment.⠀

A pretty face doesn't get you anywhere in the Commonwealth, only good trigger discipline and lots of ammo!⠀

Stepping out into the Commonwealth, there's many dangers and evils all across the land, so it's always good to come across a friendly face! (Fallout 4 Heather Companion Mod)⠀

Time to step out of Vault 111 and restart the adventure again! ⠀

The Old Story:

I decided to restart my Fallout 4 playthrough, and this meant the story of the Commonwealth Regiment also restarted. Below is the original story:

Ready for anything! A soldier from the 1st Special Operations Division posts to show off the kit they all depend on in the field.

Looking through the grass: Not all of the 1st Special Operations Division's missions take place in Boston's ruins. Buildings, trees, grass, terrain - the specialists must make use of everything to keep the upper hand!

200 years isn't enough to sink this boat! Looking worse for wear, with a hefty list and heel, this old tug can't take to sea anymore, but it can provide just enough shelter to anyone caught out on the waves.

Ambush?? While travelling across the open, the 1st Special Operations Division cover all angles after caught out by noises from surrounding buildings...

Advancing through the ruins of Boston, you can never be use what you're about to run into. Using equipment and tactics to their advantage, the 1st Special Operations Division can cut through the ruins in no time.

NBC Protocols! 200 years had done a lot to dissipate the effects of the radiation & fallout, but not everywhere is safe.

Even for the battle hardened, deployments with the 1st Special Operations Division can be gruelling - physically and emotionally!

A day of celebration for the Commonwealth Regiment, as Andersen earns her pips to become an officer!

Over 200 years ago, this Captain launched some of the nuclear missiles that devastated America, and the rest of the world. Centuries later, the hatred that led up to that point is long forgotten...

Night operations for the 1st Special Operations Division.

Being back in the barracks is most people's chance to unwind. Some days, that's not as easy as it seems...

Vertibirds may give the Brotherhood of Steel air superiority, but it does not give them invulnerability!

Defending The Castle isn't easy! But the walls do help...

Defending The Castle isn't easy! But the walls do help...

From a curious robot, to being nearly-human: Curie's transformation is complete! (Yes, this is a modded Curie)

The memory of the man... The man who put you though so much hell...

The memory of the man... The man who put you though so much hell...

Reliving memories can be an awful thing.....

The cavalry has arrived! Knights from the Brotherhood of Steel, complete with their mighty power armour, join the 1st Special Operations Division on a patrol through the ruined streets of Boston.

1st Division on patrol near Diamond City.

The firepower of the Brotherhood of Steel vertibirds is not to be sniffed at, but they're not invulnerable - the skies above Lexington light up with anti-aircraft fire as raider forces try to take away the BoS's air superiority.

Air support! The Brotherhood of Steel keeps a friendly relationship with the Commonwealth Regiment, but they have their enemies. And to those enemies, they rain fire down from the skies!

Back at base, 1st Division's solders get a chance to get our their field gear and reflect on their last deployment.

Life in the Commonwealth is dangerous. Despite their training and equipment, not everyone who joins the 1st Special Operations division makes it back to base.

Cars of the future were equally as dangerous when stationary as they were in motion... Nuclear power does have its disadvantages, and a stray bullet can turn a dangerous situation into a deadly one!

"Psssst... Cait.... Hey, Cait! Whatd'ya think we're getting for dinner when we get back?" Not every moment on deployment is serious! Sergeant Wright winds up Rifleman Cait while out on patrol near Boston.

It's not just the humans who are fighting in the Commonwealth! After 200 years of mutations, very few animals are friendly. Nor are many of the other inhabitants for that matter!

Heading out again: The walls of Diamond City provide security to many, but the threats outside those walls means the 1st Special Operations Division has to spend more time outside walls in the ruins of Boston.

Threats secured, members of the Commonwealth Regiment resume their posts at CRS Sanctuary, ready to deal with the next threat!

Bang! As well as a full compliment from the Commonwealth Military Police, several divisions of the Commonwealth Regiment are based in Sanctuary. The attacking raiders get nothing from the citizens today!

Elsewhere in the Commonwealth, danger is always afoot! A force of raiders begins their attack on the Commonwealth Regiment Station of Sanctuary - but they're about to be in for a shock (see tomorrow's post)!

Operations inside populated areas are a rare, but necessary part of special operations for the 1st Division.

"Oooh, what's that?". Sergeant Wright sees something from the past in a Vault. Many aspects of life are unrecognisable now from what they were 200 years ago.

Old vaults were once places of safety for many, but 200 years on, they can be terrible sources of danger! Warrant Officer Andersen keeps the team covered as they secure the vault.

Warrant Officer Andersen poses to get some stock photos, but the light duties are about to end: the 1st Special Operations Division is about to head back out into the field! Let's get back to Fallout 4, shall we?

Photogenic AF in the mornings! I'm enjoying my time off by continuing my Fallout 4 military adventure. I'll get back to that story later on! For now, hope everyone had a good Christmas and has a great New Year when it comes!

Junior Warrant Officer Andersen goes about the markets of Diamond City on her first official business trip since getting promoted to Junior Warrant Officer - proudly showing off her new WO's cap.

The Great Green Jewel: Diamond City is one of the biggest settlements in the Commonwealth, but paranoia is rife. Need to watch what you say!

Super mutants.... the result of highly immoral human experimentation both before and after nuclear war. Sadly, only a few are sane enough to be friendly. For the rest, well, better take up firing positions before they do!

"The Commonwealth doesn't always need to know who we are". Working in the 1st Special Operations Division can make yourself a target when you're on patrol, so Sergeant Wright shows off the new face masks to help preserve operator's identities.

There's an apparatus for that! Come rain, hail, snow or nuclear radiation, the Commonwealth Regiment is equipped and ready to respond!

Medical Officer Andersen stands in full combat radiation gear as the radiation storm bears down on them.

The 1st Division cuts lonely silhouettes as they carefully make their way through the radiation.

Radiation storms do terrible things to one's insides, but if you are in a safe place, they are at least nice to look at!

The still of the night is broken by gunfire at a nearby settlement. 1st Division were about to enter the fight of their lives against the Gunners.

It took 30 men and women from the 1st Special Operations Division, 2nd Division (Sanctuary), and the 5th Division (1st Expeditionary Force) to repel the attack.

"You're either buyin' or you're leavin' - this isn't the place for you army types". Not everyone in the Commonwealth is happy to see the 1st Division.

Watch those corners! Exploring the Commonwealth's ruined buildings isn't always the safest, but it's a necessary evil to get the parts civilisation needs.

BOOM! The problem with nuclear powered cars is that when things go wrong.... they go HELLA wrong.

The morning has no idea what's about to hit it: Medical Officer Andersen lies in wait, ready to ambush an approaching force of mercenaries.

200 years since any semblance of maintentace was performed, Boston's skyscrapers are beginning to collapse back to the ground from which they came.

HALT AND IDENTIFY YOURSELF! Chance encounters outside of the few settlements in the Commonwealth are always a huge risk. Thankfully, in this case, the lone wanderer was a scavenger making their way to find their new fortune.

"What is that coming up the tracks?" Sgt Casdin remarks. The 1st Special Operations Division is back on patrol in the Commonwealth.

A meeting of doctors: Vault 81 Doctor and Chief Scientist meets with Medical Officer Andersen of the 1st Special Operations Division to discuss the situation in the vault.

Everyone to your rooms, the army is in control here! keeping the civilians save is the top priority of any operations in the Commonwealth.

Sergeants Casdin & Best oversee vault residents returning to their rooms. The 1st Special Operations Division is more used to heavy combat, so operations involving civilians are something of an oddity.

Too much for Vault Security to deal with? Call in the Army!

The 1st Special Operations Division arrives at Vault 81 to reinforce their security forces.

The vaults were a place of safety for some, but 200 years on, some dangers lies in their depths.

Vault-Tec is a tad defunct 200 years after the apocalypse, but the security forces have been handed down throughout the generations to keep the surviving vaults safe!

Sergeant Casdin used to trade all across the Commonwealth. The stopover at Vault 81 is a welcome opportunity to get her feet up for a night.

The peculiarities of vault life: Staff Sergeant Best was born and raised on the surface, and all the scrutiny and paranoia of the vault dwellers puts him on edge.

A rare moment of rest on patrol: 1st Special operation Division visits Vault 81 for some downtime, but the quiet doesn't sit well with Medical Officer Andersen.

The ruins of Boston in the daytime.

The enemies of the commonwealth make themselves known! Institute Synths open fire on special operations teams in a ruined facility.

The enemies of the commonwealth make themselves known! Institute Synths open fire on special operations teams in a ruined facility.

Left or right? 1st Special Operations Division plans their next move.

The ruins of Lexington: After securing the streets of Lexington, the 1st Special Operation Division inspects the damage to the infrastructure, including the near-total destruction of the old motorways.

MOVE. MOVE, MOVE! Navigating the ruined towns and cities of America is never safe. Moving from cover to cover and moving fast is the key to staying alive!

Not everything goes to plan when doing these screenshots. Trying to get a nice morning shot of the base and... well, Bethesda games will be Bethesda games!

Orders in! Time for one last meal at the mess before rest days are over and it's back on patrol!

Gooooood morning Commonwealth! The CRS Sanctuary guard tower stands tall over the landscape as the sun rises over Boston.

Earned your stripes. Staff Sergeant Glenn Best shows off his recently sown-on Staff Sergeant stripes on his field uniform.

Meeting with the boss: army life doesn't stop just because you're home from patrol!

Sgt. Casdin and Medical Officer Andersen stand ready as the Division heads back on the road.

Boston at night. Power is a scare commodity in the Commonwealth, but the Great Green Jewel that is Diamond City shines as a beacon in the dark.

Militarised Sanctuary: 200 years after the war, the village of Sanctuary looks very different as it fills it's new role as CRS Sanctuary (Commonwealth Regiment Station).

The Regiment's good boy: even Dogmeat has a role to play in the Special Operations Division.

Taking Point... Medical Officer (1st Class) Andersen leads 1st Division on a patrol around the Commonwealth. 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse, almost all conventions have been forgotten, and medics have to be just as armed and dangerous as their Infantry colleagues!

Keeping watch on the Commonwealth: defending the bases of the Commonwealth Regiment is a full time job for many soldiers in the Regiment.

Even though the car's have sat idle for over 200 years, soldiers still have to check them unexpected dangers during their patrols.

Join the Commonwealth Regiment! A mere 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse, parts of the east coast of North America sees some semblance of law and order returned. With roles in combat, medicine, engineering and more, you could play your part in keeping the Commonwealth safe!

(Just FYI, Fallout 4 is single player and you can't actually join anything - I just felt this picture looked a lot like the old WW2 adverts to join the military)

All geared up and ready to go! Staff Sergeant Andersen enjoys the morning sunshine at CRS Sanctuary, before the special operations team head out on another patrol.

That's the face of a soldier that doesn't like what he sees!

Wherever the action is, the medics are needed! The Commonwealth Medical Corps operates hospitals and treatment centres throughout the region, with combat medics supporting the Regiment on the battlefield.

Army Life: Fallout 4 style! Not much use having a big screen with nothing to watch, so it's all been taken down to make way for the CRS Starlight army base!

While the base at CRS Sanctuary (CRS stands for Commonwealth Regiment Station, btw) is the headquarters of the military the CRS Starlight base is the main hub for recruiting, training and housing personnel ahead of being deployed around the Commonwealth!

Who said the apocalypse can't be beautiful?

The post-apocalypse landscape isn't always pretty! Occasional radiation storms can somewhat...... murk the view!
